Chamomile Snickerdoodles

I have been daydreaming of the idea of this recipe for years. My mom and I mastered this snickerdoodle recipe when I was in elementary school for a Girl Scouts bake off competition, and not to brag, but we won the county-wide bake off with it! It makes perfect snickerdoodles. I have been tossing around the idea of making a chamomile flavored cookie for a while now, and the idea of mixing the cinnamon with chamomile to make a warming and relaxing winter cookie that makes you want to snuggle up by the fire and take a nap. Finally executing this recipe was better than I could have expected- it is a perfect warming winter balance of sweet and cozy.

A few tips for those who don't normally buy or work with chamomile. I recommend ordering or buying organic dried chamomile to use for this recipe. If like me, you grow chamomile in your garden, all you have to do is leave it out somewhere aerated and dark to dry until it crumbles to the touch. No matter which way you obtain it or dry it, you need to grind it into a powder in order for it to be choice to eat and flavor our cookies. I stick my chamomile right into my electric spice grinder and grind it into powder in a few seconds. The one I use is the Cuisinart Electric Spice and Nut Grinder. If you do not have an electric spice grinder to use, you may grind it by hand in a mortar and pestle until it is a fine powder.

These cookies will be crunchy FAST! So if you like a softer cookie, take them out at the 8 minute mark. If you like a crunchier cookie, you can leave them in for 10 minutes before taking out of the oven to let them cool. Every oven is a little different, so I would keep a close watch on your cookies the first time you make them and an eye on how much time it took in your oven!

These cookies are a great calming cookie to give your kids before bed, as well as yourself! How many people can say they have a cookie that helps them go to sleep?! These are safe for the whole family to enjoy and snuggle up with on a cold winter day.
